Refuge Virtual Tour

Accommodation

We know for a lot of women leaving their home and coming to refuge is the last resort especially when it comes to leaving your home with your children in tow. We often get asked what our accommodation looks like as it conjures various things to people. Common feedback we receive from women is that 'if i knew a place like this existed I wouldn't have feared leaving my home in the first place'. It's so important for that reason we offer families the best possible standards and this remains our priority in this pandemic. Over the coming days we will be giving you a little insight into some of the changes we have made to promote client and staff safety in our response to covid-19.

Community office

The last of our tours includes a trip to our community office, where we have repurposed all meeting spaces for clients' safe access. While refuge plays an important role responding to families in crisis so too does our community work which aims to support women and children at any and every stage from recovery to healing from domestic abuse.

Outdoor space

Having outdoor space has been so important for families living in refuge during covid-19. We were in the fortunate position to have the support of Collen Construction who transformed our outdoor garden space before lockdown began. The garden space facilitates socially distanced meetings between clients and staff, clients access to a relaxation and dining space and children have a sand area, trampoline, play area and astro area for football and basketball. During lockdown some of our resident small people enjoyed getting stuck into some planting, as you can see they did a great job!!! Our resident fairies weren't forgotten either!

Facilities

Each of our 10 family units have integrated kitchen, dining, sleeping and washing facilities. Families have timetabled access to communal kitchen, dining, sitting room and laundry facilities to ensure adequate cleaning and sanitation between use. We have in addition to a back garden an internal courtyard/ play area whereby our resident children are in clear view of their mams at all times. Our link in and meeting rooms have been repurposed to best promote client and staff safety and we have introduced video link to facilitate meetings without clients having to leave the building and to limit access into the building.
