Richard Plenty, Co-Opted Director

Richard is the Managing Director of the international organisation and leadership development practice, This Is... and is a Visiting Teaching Fellow at Trinity College, Dublin. He is also currently a member of the American Psychological Association task force on climate change

He started life as a physicist before becoming an organisational psychologist, and has lived and worked in Europe, North America and Asia.

His career has spanned all major sectors: public, private, state/semi state and voluntary. He has held senior management roles in Europe, North America, and Asia and has designed and delivered leading edge programmes, provided coaching and thought partnering for leaders and change agents in a variety of settings. Recently he has focused on leadership, change and people issues in the airport sector and in health & social care.

His previous experience included 20 years coordinating and facilitating strategic change in Europe, Asia and North America with Shell International as both an Organisation Development Manager and HR Leader, including substantial periods based outside the UK.

His book with Terri Morrissey “Uncertainty Rules? Making Uncertainty Work for You” was published by Cork University Press in 2020 . He has co-written the regular People Matters column in Airport World with Terri since 2014.

Richard holds postgraduate qualifications (MSc and a PhD) in psychology and human factors (ergonomics) and is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and a Fellow of the Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors. He also holds a first class honours degree in Physics from London University.

He has been a Director of Aoibhneas since 2012 over a period of major change and transition.

He enjoys playing the saxophone, guitar and tennis.
